It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Board Member, Mr. Alfonso O. Swett. Alfonso leaves behind an incredible legacy, marked by his distinguished career as a successful businessman and industry leader, his strong dedication to academia and teaching, his unwavering commitment to public and social service, and, above all, his remarkable qualities as a family man and friend.
With a degree in Business & Economics (Ingeniero Comercial) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MBA from Duke University (USA), Alfonso made significant contributions across various fields throughout his illustrious career. He served as a distinguished member of the Board of Directors of several companies, including FORUS, Elecmetal, Olisur and Inmobiliaria Costanera, and was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Costanera S.A.C.I. Between 2018 and 2020, he served as President of the Confederación de la Producción y el Comercio (CPC). He was also the Executive Director of the Business and Industry Advisory Council (BIAC) of the OECD in Paris, France; Chairman of the Executive Committee of CLAPES UC; Director of the Endowment Fund at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; member of the Investment Committee of the Endowment Fund at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; and advisor to the university's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Additionally, he served was a board member of ACN Chile (Ayuda a la Iglesia que Sufre), the Instituto de Directores de Chile (IdDC), and was a member of the Foreign Policy Council of Chile's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Alfonso was also an esteemed professor and faculty member of the Economics and Business Administration Department at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
On Monday, together with his family and friends, we bid farewell to Alfonso in a deeply emotional and solemn ceremony at the San Francisco de Sales Church, honoring also his resolute faith in Christ. Our heartfelt condolences and support go out to the Swett family during this difficult time.
